Anyone ever use them?

I'm kinda sick of my car being clean an my rims being black with break dust. I've recently learned of these break dust shields and am considering putting them on my X5 w/ the 19" Y spokes. (sport package)

I was curious if anyone had any experience with them. Good or bad. Do they work? Affect performance?

I think that i would go with a low dust pad. I have never used any dust shield however I have seen something like them installed and I don't think that they look very good.

I have used them in the past with wheels that had narrow spaces with spokes, because you can't see them. If you have 5 or 6 spoke wheels you will not see through the openings between spokes. You ruin the look of being able to see through the spokes and the dimession this gives to the overall look of the wheel.

I would live with it and get the car washed once a week.:redspot

Do ceramic pads produce less dust?

Ceramic pads do produce far less dust, but of course cost more

what type of pads are the OEM BMW ones? i only buy OEM bmw ones because my experince with Aftermarket is that they squeek. BTW the oem ones i have now make my rim black in about a week. i want to to last 2-3 weeks. but i dont think that is possible.

My X1 had very squeaky brakes from day 1 after I bought it. Any low speed braking would generate a lot of embarrassing noise. I complained to the dealership and they replaced the front pads, with what must be a softer model, as they now produce huge quantities of brake dust... but no more squeaking. I hadn't realized beforehand how dust-free the harder pads were, but now I know by comparison.

So yes, you can use a harder pad to avoid brake dust, but you may also start to have brake squeaking issues.

Cheers!

Just had the front pads replaced on the front, the shop that did the work said BMW just came out with ceramics for my 2001 325i, so they used them. It's been a 2 weeks, low dust and no squeek. I've only had the car for 3 months and not that familiar with BMWs, but these are working great. the shop specializes in BMWs
