I think you can in the iDrive menu, but why would you ever want to. It's the coolest option in the car! The iPod and phone controls alone make it so awesome.
To each his own, but let her know that she can adjust the hight of the image.

+1, it is one of the options that I am looking forward to when I hopefully upgrade. Keeping your eyes on the road and having all the info in front of you is priceless. How is the HUD integration with Nav? worth getting the NAV for it?

With Nav, HUD is even more cool. The directions and street names are all right there in front of you with situational arrows that show you when and where to turn. I don't even look at the Nav screen for anything.
You just have to see it. You also can scroll tracks with the little roll thingy on the right side of the stirring wheel. The entire layout is nothing short of worth the money.

Except that the nav doesn't navigate all that well...

That seems to be a common problem, more or less, with just about any manufacturer's NAV system.
My wife has a Garmin NAV app on her iPhone and she says it's more accurate that any factory-installed NAV system of any car she's ridden in...

It has it's hiccups, but they all do. For the most part I am very satisfied with the factory NAV system in my F30.
