EPA: 11/20
I get about what's advertised. Gained a couple MPGs after swapping in a 3.73.

Wow guys I usually average 28 on the highway and around 22 in the city. When I'm on it though it drops pretty quickly. The lowest on a tank I've gotten was 23 and that was at a track day and then driving home.

Your car is actually a magic carpet. I only get 22 stop-and-go with the 2.5.

Avg around 19 to 21 with a mixed bag of driving here in Dallas and since I don't daily it, each tank usually has several spirited runs in it.
Best I've seen is 29 (DFW to Indianapolis) and worst is 10 (two day track day fest).

That gets old pretty quick. My 525 can empty the tank in like 30 mins of horsing around. Cruising though I get upwards of 26 - 28 mpg. I tracked it on the way to BFE got 20 - 22 but that was combined which I don't think is bad.

Shhhh! If the 525i guys get knocked off their fuel mileage high-horse, the rioting will never end around this place.
My buddy's M5 (91 model with 3.91) gets 26mpg on the highway at roughly 80-85 mph. My 540i can match the mileage, but not at that speed. It drops rapidly after you pass 65mph. Milege is pretty bad by the time you reach 85mph. Not sure how the M5 does it. I imagine if I installed a 3.91 diff the 540i could probably accelrate like an M5, but then it would be getting like 15mpg highway.

I respect you and your build, but I'm sorry, I do not believe you at all.

14-22 is about what I see, though I am not convinced that the engine is running 100% yet.

Thats fine and thanks for the complement I'm aiming to have my car be part of the jack stand club, may even run for president. I can define my city driving a bit better around 45-55 with somewhat hilly terrain and a few stop lights, might call it suburban driving more than city. I don't do much true city driving with speeds below 35 so if its stop and go and lower speeds I can see how it would be lower and where our numbers would disagree, I could certainly see teens in sub 40mph driving with numerous stops. Our highway speed limits are also 75 out here as well if that helps any.

Yea ~28mpg and ~75mph on a M5 is about right I cant see 22mpg that seems way low.

Another thing to keep in mind guys Im at 6000+ ft.

I do a lot of city driving where I live. Sunday I took a 50 mile highway run and averaged 23 with cruise on at 65. I'm going to have to buy a beater to drive every day to keep the miles down on this thing.

Spend a lot of money on an M5. Buy another car so that you don't drive the M5?
Just enjoy the car and don't worry too much about little things like MPG and putting miles on it.

I'm at 17 city and can get around 25 highway. Ethanol at 10 per cent, which is what most metro area gasoline contains, can cause a decrease in efficiency. Original EPA estimates were 11/20 so if you're getting better than that consider yourself fortunate.

I drive mine daily. It's good for the car. Lots of damage can occur by letting them sit for long periods. I'm less concerned about miles and more concerned about being hit by distracted drivers.

About the fuel mileage, not the altitude. Air too thin up there. Makes people do silly things.

No I know, just wanting people to have as much info as possible. Comparing fuel economy is a lot like comparing dyno numbers lots of variables unless they are done in the same place and by the same people.

Yup at the end of the day its just a car and is meant to be driven and to have fun with. Im weird though I want 30 mpg and 550+ hp . . .

That's the beauty of small displacement + turbo. If I leaned out I could do 30 mpg+ I feel. I cruise with a target of 14.5:1. Back on my T3 turbo I ran for around 15:1, egts were hotter but I got slightly better mileage. But, it was also a smaller T3 vs a large T4. 685 rwhp w/ 28 mpg isn't that bad lol. But, at the same time, I can consume 6,000 cc/min of fuel and drain 20 gal in 12 minutes lol.

13 city, 26 on last trip back from Port Aransas to Austin.
I don't try to get good mileage around home, but I do just stick it at 80mph in 6th on the highway.
Nice to have a 21 gallon tank on the Euro. I know I'll hit 28mpg when I do all my vacuum hoses, 02 sensor and other items that contribute to good mileage.
cheers,

You should have the 90 liter (24 gal) tank on yours, right? 80 liters (21 gal) is the standard tank found on all normal e34s.

Plus you can add another 9+ liters with the BMW spare tire gas tank accessory giving you a range of 675 miles on the highway!
