Someone backed into me and now dealing with the coolant issues, upper radiator hose is def leaking, but I want to say because someone backed into me I want the insurance to take care of it. Has anyone had any experience with insurance taking care of mechanical issues that were the result of cosmetic errors or accidents?

If you're having mechanical issues, the damage wasn't only cosmetic. Not sure what the problem would be here.

Well I am not sure if the cooling system wasn't already damaged and I just want to say the front damage caused the cooling system to leak. Even though I don't know if it did or not, but it sure is worse now.

Couple things to consider:

1. What's your deductible? Most are around $500 and fixing the cooling system like replacing the hose will be less than that and insurance wont do anything.
2. If you can't prove it they won't fix it
3. Even if they do fix it they will then raise your premium and you'll pay for it more in the long run

In my view, insurance is for major catastrophic events. For small items you are better off and it will be more economical if you take care of them.

Well the insurance is going to cover it as a hit and run, and I want to add the cooling system on top.

Sounds to me as though you're looking for validation to add a repair to your insurance claim for damage you may have been aware of prior to your "hit and run". How severe was the damage to the front end? Was it pushed into the radiator or any part of the cooling system? Got photo's? I'm sure the claims adjuster will give the damage a thorough inspection. Good luck.

From experience as bodyshop manager dealing with insurance company, it has to have physical damage of coolant if not they will not cover it. Or if u bugging them crazy they will do ur favorite but small chance tho. Good luck

I just got back my 328i today and I had two accidents back to back with head on running over jackrabbits. In the mojave the most common accidents is running over jackrabbits and coyotes. When I brought it to the body shop the whole front bumper (grill) needed to be replaced. Also, the radiator, my bottom left fog light needed to be changed out, the AC unit needed to be repaired and it became one thing after another. Even though the accidents were out of my hands my insurance company paid for everything and all I had to do was pay my deductible. All the replaced parts where OEM BMW parts. BUT since someone hit you, their insurance company has to pay the for damages. Nothing comes out from you. As long as you do a police report, get their info i.e. insurance card, driver license, car model and plates, you shouldn't be paying anything. Besides the rental if you decide to get one. I wish I could show you a before and after because it's a great example of the repairs you're talking about.

It depends on your Insurance ---

Some policies are written to cover additional damage as it is discovered

while others are written in such a way as to close the claim as quickly as

possible ---

A friend of mine had a claim with Progressive and they just wanted to go

with what damage their adjuster wrote up just after the accident ---

He now has a lawyer and is in court seeking complete coverage plus costs

so as to eliminate any out of pocket expenses to himself ---

It varies from policy to policy and from company to company ---

Which company do you have your coverage with ---

I had a full custom exhaust on my suv. Backed in to a trash can one day and the tip fell off. After driving for a week with out exhaust tip, the Hot gas fumes melted the rear bumper.
Insurence adjuster came out, took a look at the bumper and few days later i got a check in the mail for a new bumper.

Also had windshield replaced twice from rocks cracking the windshield. Insurence paid for it both times.

Glass coverage is different. They just pay if the glass is damaged, no questions asked.

In most cases, I just noticed the body shop chipped my windshield and said it wasn't their problem. The insurance company said I would have to pay another deductible even though it wasn't my fault. Either way I'm paying for it

Update: I called my dealership and explained what happen with the body shop. The dealership are the ones that referred me to the body shop and they quickly called the body shop and told them they needed to refund me the money I'm spending on the windshield or they will stop sending customers over there. The body shop called me back and said they will give me a check for what I spend to fix the windshield. In most cases your dealership will help you out.

A van backed into my 2000 740il and Once I gave the drivers info Plus his insurance info to my insurance comapny, It was clear sailing. I took it to the shop, they looked at the damage, reported it to the insurance company amd it was fixed, no decuctible.

If you are the injured party and the other guy is at fault, their insurance company has to be contacted by your insurance company to open a claim and then you won't have to pay the deductible.

I am waiting now for an accident report so I can get my Jag fixed. someone backed into me again.

Good luck, just get the other guys info to your insurance company and you should be good to go.

That sucks! I know how it feels when you have to get your car fixed more than one time. Even when it's not your fault. My wife said my BMW is bad luck. But I still love my car! LoL!!
