I was hoping this would be a helpful explanation about how many posts you need to post photos and send PMs, etc...
Members with 201 posts and a seniority complex should click here (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/login.php?do=logout&logouthash=1346866772-3d975c984f88669b3383837ba800d112f96d636e).

God I hate search Nazi's. If everyone always used search properly and was able to find what they were looking for, most forums would slow to a snails pace as it's unusual for someone to pose a truly unique question that no one has ever asked before.

Not a flame and doesn't matter "on THIS forum" or not. When you started posting here and will probably again in the future, you've asked questions that could also be answered by searching. But I don't think too many told you to search instead of asking a question.

Takes some knowledge to do a correct search. Alot of peops don't even know the keywords to use and therefore post for help after searching on subjects that people think are beat to death.
And on the flip side I've done searches that come back with so many threads it takes forever to find the correct answer.
These are 2 instances where starting a new thread and getting someone else (that has already found the answer) to do the search is very helpful.
Also when a new thread is created and that thread is loaded with links pointing to the correct answer then the next person that uses those keywords to search next time get sent in the correct direction. So every thread that gets created whether it seems like it or not is actually adding to the knowledge base by keyword generation alone.

I have yet to tell anyone to go use the search tool. It is one of the things I like about the e38 section. Even if the topic has been covered 30 times the people of this section always give a nice and civil answer. It is one of the nice corners of the internet that people are nice and helpful, to new comers and old users.

I rarely use the search here. I use google with "e38 (subject matter)". I can them click on the BF list of links. If I am looking for the location on a relay or something I do the same under google images. I mainly use the advance search here. Qsilver7 has good graphics and images of keys, radio units, etc. So I will put in a keyword and search using his name when needing to find something of that nature. Just my two cents worth.

Good idea, I also find myself reading his posts twice. He Knows what he's talking about.

Indeed. There are several here who have great knowledge of the e38 overall. I have learned over time who to watch/search for on certain issues, i.e. I will google meeknet torque convertor lock up and I know Timm has covered this, and many other, issues in depth on his site. You learn who the more experienced guys are as you read thru threads. Ice, Edwin and others have been here for years and have first hand experience where most of my knowledge is from reading and learning from their input.

What's a search nazi?
Edit... never mind. I thought about it for a minute and figured it out :D I am a big supporter of searching before asking. I try to be kind and help when I can, but when I see a brand new user with like 2 posts who has just registered, and they're asking something silly like how to reprogram a key remote (info I KNOW can be located in under 2 seconds with a google search), I get a little annoyed. Hence my username title ;)

What's a search nazi?
Please use the search feature before wasting our precious time with your stupid and very newbie question. lol just kidding but that is a typical, though exaggerated response of a Search Nazi.

A "search nazi" spends more of their precious time posting to tell people to search, than they would if they either didn't post at all or just answered the question. Its almost like complaining.. If you don't like what you see, change the channel..
I've had great results in this forum, getting answers to question and help on projects. And I try to answer questions whenever I can.
Thanks to all the people here that do take the time to answer questions, and do post DIY's I for one really appreciate it.

I second that. I've been around here awhile and have learned a ton about these cars. When I first started out, I tried other forums and my questions were answered coldly or not at all. Here most everyone has been genuinely helpful and supportive of one another.
