Apparently s999a means your car was ordered by a dealer as a demo.

Cool. I will probably never use it but still wanted to know.

That would explain why the other options that my car has aren't on the decoder. Makes me think the other options were dealer nstalled.

Accidently unsubscribed. Resubbing...

The master battery switch is installed by the factory as a safety factory during shipment from factory to the US. US DOT says it is a NO NO and is removed after the car arrives here.

That is what I was told anyway. Funny I think it would remain a good idea - if it was a safety factor during shipment what changes.

I don't think it's a DOT thing, my '95 f355 has a battery kill switch and I know they had them through the end of production run in '99. Mine is a US car and I've never heard of one not having the kill switch (US or otherwise).

I don't know if it would be the same as a master kill switch which I understand was located in the trunk by the battery. Then there is the matter of it being a truck - totally different rules than for cars.

The battery switch indeed is removed once the car is disembarked and has gone through prep after its long journey across the ocean.

The switch is then returned to BMW AG (Germany) and reused for transport of other BMWs that are being shipped across the ocean or markets far away.

Here's a link to the BMW TIS that explains this option and it also gives the address to where the switch is to be returned (again, Germany)...and there's also an illustration that shows how the switch is run from the battery in the trunk up to the front of the car where the working loading/unloading the car can access the switch: http://tis.spaghetticoder.org/s/view.pl?1/04/60/64

This is a pic of the main battery switch...sometimes they fail to get returned...and an owners gets lucky and will find it tucked away:
