Hi guys,

I have already searched on the forums but could not find too much feedback from people who have purchased these chips...

I have a 1989 525i Automatic and have found this chip:

I can't post the link, but it's called:
BMW 87-91 E30 325i E34 525i Performance Chip for ECU 173

What are your thoughts, and should I buy this one? or are there better for *similar* money?

See if DUDMD (a user on here) makes a chip for your car. I'd guarantee better performance than an Ebay chip if he does.

Without a link, hard to know what chip you are referencing on Ebay. Several years ago on this forum, the most common recommendation was the E.A.T. chip by Mark D'Sylva. I used one in my 95 525iT for 4 years with very good results.

OP has an M20 525 - so there's nothing on the planet that will give his car a boost worth having... Not even DudMD can help there...

P.S. Even better - OP has an M20 slushbox 525...oh that poor thing, trying so hard to get out of it's own way...

I, too, have been running Mark's chip on our '93 525iT for many years and it's worked great. The only downside is you get used to the improvement pretty quickly. :)

I'm still at M60 engines at the moment, next tune's I'll be working on are M62 OBD1 and OBD2 tunes, and M62tu after that. (Winter when I'm back in college and have a lot of free time)

There's so much out there for the 6 cyl obd1, that I don't want to get into them yet, maybe later down the road.

What chip would be the best for a 91 m50?

One of the posts above pointed out a detail I missed. If you have the older M20 engine and auto transmission, there is very little you can do to improve performance without major engine mods. A chip on that stock combination will be wasted money. There are a lot of ways to build a higher HP M20 engine but none of them are inexpensive. The E30 crowd has a lot of information if you really want to look into this.

I'd rock an ebay chip. Most of the time they are so cheap that if you don't like it just throw it away.

Thank you, only just realised I had an M20 (new to BMW) and researched the M50 and noticed the difference, stock wise.

I think I'll just stick with what I have, and save up for a 540i in the future :)

Thank you very much :devillook

Hello.
I recently installed an M62 in place of an M60 in my E34 540i using all OBD1 parts. Easier than I thought it would be considering the major differences in the engines.
I am looking for a chip that would map for the swap. Is this something you have done and if so are you willing to sell me one?
Thanks.

I have been rocking an Ebay chip on my m30 for years now. Not sure how much performance I really gained since I have only been on the dyno AFTER I had it on.
