View Full Version : 1998 E38 Cylinder 4, Cylinder 8 misfire

Recently purchased a 1998 E38 that had been sitting for a while. Had a real bad knock (bad lifter) Had random multiple cylinder misfires (code P0300) Installed a new MAF, new injectors, Plugs and coil packs. still no spark @ 4 and 8. Pulled the plugs and they are wet with fuel so I know it is not the injectors. I am at my wits end. Does anyone have any suggestions? :help:help:help:help

If the system see a misfire code for a cylinder for any reason, MAF, vacuum leak, cats, etc, it shuts down that cylinder. Did you get a Bosch MAF? Have you checked for vacuum leaks? See DIY section at top of forum.

Edit: Did you replace the boots as well? Even though they are new, I would still swap packs to see if the misfire follows.

That...and just because they are wet with fuel, dont mean they are working good.

They might be leaking fuel.

No, I did not get the Bosch MAF, went with a cheaper aftermarket. I did swap the coil pack around and still received the same result. I was going to check the Cats next. Going to pull the O2 sensors to see if it makes a difference. The car is equipped with a Dinan Cold air intake and it says that there is a Dinan performance chip installed. Should I remove these items and go back to stock to aid in the troubleshooting?

Stop right there and get oem maf.... Even a known working used one over a new aftermarket would be better... Or at least find a member close to swap and test...

Yeah the deceptions had some bad dudes like, sound wave, ravage, shockwave, scorpocon, barricade, etc. i do route for the auto bots though.

I will try to get my hands on a OEM MAF. Maybe I will find one at my local Pic-A-Part. barnz67 is obviously confused. They are the Decepticons and not Deceptions and are just another Hollywood attempt to bring down our military. Why else would the bad guys be mainly military vehicles and the good guys be civilians. But that's extremely off topic.
