Another Trans Gone!!

So my original trans reverse failed about 6 months ago. I got another used tranny from a local guy for a good price of 350. It was working fine up until last week. I noticed that when I started the car, the Manual mode light was illuminated. After doing some research I guess the switch went bad, my remedy was just to hold it in the auto position until it went out of M mode. Now, its gets better after a week of that I come to a light try to accelerate nothin. THen boom and on comes the dreaded TRANS fAILsafe program. I really hope I dont need another trans so soon. What to do? ANYONE LOCAL in the DMV got a good connect for diagnosis and/or rebuild

I have a transmission from a 2000 with 89k. You can come and take it for $700

My 528i did that same thing after driving in some heavy rain and I kept playing with it just like you describe with no luck.. hard and delayed shifts, occasional trans failsafe and random gears displayed on the dash. This went on for about a week and I figured I needed the switch too. Hooked up the handheld and it had the code for the trans position switch.. I cleared it .. immediately after clearing the code all the symptoms went away and it's been fine for months.
