Not a good weekend for my cars. Lost the brakes on my 88 735, now a problem with my 2000 740i. I am getting a loud clanking noise from under the car. It is a metal on metal sound. Could this be the center support bearing for the drive shaft.

Is it only while driving in gear? Post a youtube video link.

It is under the car and not a rattle. It is a loud clank, and very repetitive. The faster you go the faster it clanks

That is it, the video with the loud clank.
I just got out from under the car, took the heat shield off and looked around. The cv joint at the diff has some play in it and makes noise when I try and turn it. Should there be any play in it.
The flex joint on the front has a few hairline cracks in it.
I just took the car out for a test ride to try and film the sound and it it gone, no clanking.

I guess I will order a new cv and flex joint. The center bearing looks ok.

Check csb... May as well replace for piece of mind since you can get to it while doing the others...
