View Full Version : Alpina....allowed?
BATTLERATTLER

FACT 1: So, I have a friend (it's actually really just me) who has Alpina wheels not yet on his car. The same thing can be said for the lip. He's also got the Alpina hood and trunk emblems and Alpina floor mats that came with the wheels.
FACT 2: Definitely noticing on this forum that there is consensus as to what is in good taste and what is not. For instance, I do understand why simply displaying the Alpina badge (in writing) on the trunk is not kosher.
DISCUSSION: So, I have all this stuff..but if I throw it all on, is it in good taste? I mean, what does a genuine Alpina E38 got anyway? :dunno

What matters is that you like it.
Personally, If its not an alpina than no need for the badges. The rims are not in bad taste.
Think of a ricer. What's overboard and tacky? Stickers and badges.

Throw it on who cares. Just as long as u don't put on the ugly pin stripes

i would throw everything on besides the emblems, but its your car so you can do whatever, i just hate those black m power emblems with a passion that people sometimes put on

I am not into badges, so I wouldn't.
But honestly, if you pay $1,500 for a front lip you should be able to drive around with a friggin neon sign on your roof without fear of ridicule.

As said before "what matters is that you like it", keep in mind though that the true Alpina e38 did not come with Alpina badges. So if you are going for a rep, put the BMW roundels back on.
Btw I say being friendly as I have the wheels and lip also.

Just the 'Alpina' written on it
http://www.carsbase.com/photo/Alpina-B12_6_0_(E38)_mp233_pic_59284.jpg
I'd throw in the mats, but not the emblems because they serve no purpose. Other stickers like windshield stickers, maybe... just for style and form and it's not like they're re-badging the car. But that's just me. If you want the emblems on, thrown 'em on.

Yeah, I actually meant the Alpina roundels....that really should be the focus of this discussion. Technically, I wouldn't be adding anything...just replacing the bmw roundels with Alpina ones.

wow...the totally unfounded assumption there is that I would let you dictate anything. But that's beside the point. Also beside the point is that you clearly and obviously insulted me by telling me I have no balls for absolutely no reason.
What is important is your realization that talking tough on an internet chat room is not healthy. You should deal with you anger...there's no reason to get mad at the computer. Perhaps try the forum below...why not? maybe it can help you to resolve these personal issues you are clearly having.

This country was founded on the principle called "Freedom of Speech"
which also covers "Freedom of Expression" ---
Just look at the INCREDIBLE CREATION that is the vision of ALPINE 7EVEN ---
He has a beautiful work of art that is extremely unique ---
In fact - He has two of them ---
Change your car to look the way you want and if you decide that you are
not as thrilled with it as you thought you would be ---
Change it to any other vision you may have ---
Or at the very least - Change it back to the way it was ---
But please - No "M7" theme with all the "Bullitt Proof Goodies" ---
And then post some pictures - Please ---

See this is what I don't get, we all tell people "it does not matter and that's it's your car do what you want", then I see things like "just don't put the M7 on it or the M badge all together.
I personally don't care what anyone does to their car, I think it is their choice yet I also don't see why some "fake badges or roundels are ok and some are not. Please don't go into the whole "there never was a M7" thing, as I am well aware.

The problem with M-badges vs. Alpina details, is that the Alpina details (lip, wheels, etc.), you install because you think they make your car look better. The M-badges isn't fitted because the owner think the car looks better, it's fittet to make people think you have an M-car.

LOL, I was not directing it towards you at all, yet it was just a general question. I personally would not do the M or M7 badge, but if what we say is true then if the guy who owns the car in the link likes it then who are we to say otherwise, regardless if the person actually cares our opinions or not?

The guy I bought my car from had put an M7 badge on it. He put //M everywhere he could. He's not a bad guy, he just thought it was cool. It was his car.
Tell you what, though. It gets a lot of attention if you're into that sort of thing. Before I got the badge off I couldn't park anywhere without someone asking me if it was really an M7.

Hahaha did I touch a nerve there chief? Lol. It's cool if you don't like my bumper. I didn't make it for you, and custom fabricating a one off bumper is completely different than putting fake badges and gaudy floor mats in a car. Besides. I have close to 10 pages of praise about my bumper so I'm happy with it. :redspot. And me giving my opinion about your car was, in fact, me only trying to help you out :).
And how are you going to say we shouldn't make snide comments and than make a snide comment? Maybe someone should ask Kevlar to explain to you how moderating works because maybe you haven't quite figured that whole "hypercritical statement" thing out yet.
Also I'm not the master, I'm the King and or godfather. Hahaha
Anyway, rims and the lip I think are nice! I wouldn't mind having a set of softlines as winter rims!

I like badges, for one. When I do find the appropriate AC Schnitzer badging and pinstripe, I will put it on, for example, and I don't really care what others think. People hate the striping, in general. See if I care.
OP shouldn't care either. Heck, if he wants to slap M badges, neon wheels, stick-on vents, whatever. It's his car, he should do it so that it's aesthetically pleasing to him.

I've always felt it's a bit meh to put on performance related badging if you don't have the actual performance goods to back it up. I don't care what anyone does to their car, but for me personally I wouldn't put on an Alpina badge unless I swapped one of their drivelines. Same with an M badge, or Dinan badge. I'd be embarrassed if I went to a show and someone got all excited at my Alpina then popped the hood and saw the plain Jane M62 sitting there hehe.
IMO, extra badging is a step backwards, adds clutter. I already want to get rid of current badges, not add more.
Ditto. First thing I do when I get a car is yank badges.
