Ive had it with this car and its ever-lurking gremlins. I just busted another hose from the expansion tank to the water pump. Does ANYONE in SoCal have an aux fan that I can test out to see if mine is the issue? I purchased on last yr (used) and didnt hear it running as the AC was needed at that time. Thanks fellas, any help would be appreciated.

Please describe how you "busted ANOTHER hose from the expansion tank to the water pump".
Even if the car overheats to the point of killing the engine, the hoses will not blow if they are in ok shape. If my memory serves me correctly, isn't there a clip that holds the hose to keep it from rubbing on the belt? Is the clip missing?

Youre exactly right. The clip that holds it in place 'disappeared' and the hose rubbed on the belt, creating a deep gouge that lead to the death of another hose. The lower radiator hose 'popped' at one of the bends when I lightly overheated before; this incident was just before my expansion tank cracked on the freeway. All incidents have happened when Im running the AC and my fan isnt working at all. I plugged in an extra one from another yr and it turns on immediately. So I'd like see if someone local has one for sale that I can try out and then buy from them

Chio - I can find you a used Aux., that's not a problem. However, it seems you have confirmed one way or the other that your Aux. fan doesn't work. It's pretty easy to tell - if you are in stand still traffic or just sitting and idling and the temperature rises to a certain level, the fan should automatically kick in to assist the main cooling fan. Also, as soon as your A/C system comes on, the Aux. Fan should start running. If not, you already have your answer.
Even in desert heat of up to 127 degrees, a car should not over-heat if the cooling system is working well. Do you have a good working fan clutch? That can also lead to overheating.

It also comes on for a few secs once you turn the AC on....
Have someone sit in the car and cycle the AC on and OFF - if the fan does not move you have a bad fan or blown fuses in the circuit.:D

Yessir, tried this too. It'll attempt to spin for a 1/4 turn only but wont come on.

Yeah, it's gone. I bought it last yr from a part-out. The temp hovers from 104c to 108c, but when the AC is on and we're not moving, the temp keeps climbing...it's definitely the Aux fan. I would just like to plug one in to ensure it's not anything else or a fuse or a relay or a hidden gremlin etc. Im on a budget Michael (back to school shopping for my two teens) so it would have to be on the cheap-cheap sir.
