I just found a 2000 M Roadster that appears to be in outstanding condition cosmetically and mechanically,w/ 290K miles. I currently have an '05 325i w/sport and premium packs for my DD, and a '97 328iC 5 spd manual that I have mod'd and upgraded for weekend fun. I want to add an M Roadster to the stable, and the asking price for this is $8K. Is this high mileage of concern? It seems that it should be getting close to the end of cost-effective life, but I don't know how robust these things can remain with high mileage. What are your opinions and suggestions if this thing does well on a compression/leak test and a thorough inspection? Thanks!

I checked that car out almost a month ago. The asking price it high for the amount of miles that's on the car. The front end looks like it has been shifted to the left as well so it is questionable on whether or not it has been in a wreck. The paint is decent for the year and it has very few rock chips which is nice. The wheels also need a good refinish. For 8k, I would expect the car to look better than it does currently. The interior is in good condition with minimal cracks and tears though. When I was looking at it, I did manage to get them down to 7k, so try for 6k or 6.5k.
It drove good for the amount of miles on it but it also makes me think on how hard the miles are on the car.

Thanks! Shift to the left is not good, obviously. I may go take a look and buy the Car Fax if I like it. I can't imagine anyone babying an M, no matter what the mileage. Otherwise, what's the point? Appreciate it.
Also - what CCA are you a member of? Peachtree or Chattanooga? And, is it worth it? I have been wanting to join one, but have not been much impressed by the websites and activities. I don't track or cross my cars, but it would be fun to spend time telling lies with other enthusiasts!

I would run a carfax or an autocheck report on it. The dealer said it was clean which it may but have an unreported incident. I have seen it before. The miles may or may not be hard miles also. Since they list the VIN, check with a dealer and see if it has any records.
I used to be in the Peachtree Chapter and didn't renew my membership. It was beneficial if you bought parts at the dealer. I never tracked my cars, most of them were too nice for that or I just did not have the time to track them.

Thanks. Good advice. I think I will just keep working on the cars I have. It is not like I don't have plenty to do!
