Hi Guys..

Ive been lurking on this forum for a while as a non member, and found it extremely helpful at times as a reference for all sorts of info regarding my E36. Particularly the diy advice on various things Ive needed to do. However my latest query, I cannot find an answer to in the forum. So it has come to the point where I need to ask your advice and so tonight I have become a registered member.

Recently I have had a stroke of bad luck, it started on a rainy day and involved a rather deep pothole. Need I say more? Long story short, I damaged one of my ASA 18 x 9.5 to the point of no repair(7" radial crack).

Since Ive only recently purchased this car, and the rims were on it when I bought it, I have no data on the rims, nor have I been able to find any online. Appears these rims are quite old and no longer in production. I couldnt even find a photo of one online which should give you an idea of how rare these rims are. Anyway all I know is the size of the rim stated above, and the tyre sizes which are 235/40.

Try as I have, there has been no luck locating a matching replacement rim so, I am now in the market for a set of new rims which brings me to my question. I have an opportunity to buy a set of genuine oem bmw rims but the seller cannot tell me of which model they were originally fitted to.

I do know the sizes though, and the offset, and am hoping someone here will be able to tell me if they will bolt on without rubbing the guards.

The car is a '93 320i Sedan. The oem wheels Im looking at getting are 18 X 8.5 with a 48P offset. Tyres I plan to fit will be my old ones, 235/40 R18. I know the tyres can be squeezed onto these new rims but will be pulled in 10 or so millimetres on each side, probably making them slightly thinner?, than when fitted to the current 9.5 wide rims.

My question revolves around the offset. '48P' This has me feeling rather female as I have no idea what it means. Does this mean the rim is set more to the outside, or more to the inside? Moving them closer to the outer guards, or inner guards? What is the regular offset for my car, if any? And are these new rims likely to rub on the guards, bearing in mind that the current rims and tyres never have. If they will rub, could I use a spacer, and if so, is using spacers legal?

Sorry to ask so much of you guys on my first post. Just with no man around, I have no where else to turn.

Also going off on a tangent, where in the forum, is a good place to post a photo of my car for y'all to see. I noticed I cannot put a custom avatar until Ive posted 100 comments. Or did I read that wrong? Ok well Ill stop talking now and hope to hear from someone here soon.

Regards, Nina

Positive offset means the wheel is closer to the inside edge, so a 48mm offset will be 10mm more inset than a 38mm offset, etc. An 18X8.5 wheel with 48mm offset will possibly hit the strut towers on an E36, so you may need a spacer. I know an 18x8.5" wheel with 38mm offset will fit since that's what I run on my E36. What kind of car did these wheels come off of?

For pictures, use Photobucket or upload them to Facebook and direct link them by clicking the "insert image" button when writing a message.

I am not sure what they came off of. They are at a tyre dealers and apparently were there when they took over the shop. I might be able to get a photo of them and post them here if that would help?

Also thanks for the info regarding offset. That had me stumped. Well the P did. I kinda figured it was something to do with being off center, just didnt know which way. Again, thank you.

Below are the ASA's I was trying to find a single replacement for...

I found out today the rims were off an X5

Apparently with the 235x40's they will fit nicely with zero scrubbing.

I bought them and pick them up Friday, so I will post again after then to confirm if they infact do fit as good as Ive been told they will.

They are the same as these...
