Hey Guys,

I picked up a '91 535i for $800 with a burst rad hose (didn't overheat so that was a bonus). Overall it is a pretty decent car - lazerblau with two tone black and tan interior (even has Bilsteins). I am in the middle of fixing it up for a single Mom, for cost of parts, so she can have a means of transportation for her and her son.

Car is good to go except that I have encountered an ABS issue. Sometimes the ABS light just comes on and the system is not active. That said, there have been a few times when backing out of the driveway that the light is not on but I can feel the ABS firing when the brake pedal is pressed. Has anyone had any experiences like this with their E34 and could you point me down the path of what I should be looking at? Sensors? Module?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Rob

I'd start by cleaning all the wheel sensors and checking their resistance. Check the connector at the ABS computer for bad connections and any other relays/connectors related to the system.

Hi Rob,
An intermittant problem like this would have me looking for electrical faults rather than a pending mechanical failure of the pump.
You mentioned a burst hose, coolant may have penetrated the front ABS sensor connectors, I'm pretty sure they live under the hood.
If you need parts I'm your guy.
How is the 7er? I'm still interested if you ever do(undo) the swap.

Thanks for the guidance and suggestions Layne and Ross - I'll check that this week and report back.

As for the 7er - we will have to have a chat. I have some very cool things in the works that may change my plans a bit, I'll fill you in via pm...
