View Full Version : What glue to use for the glovebox?

My glovebox is starting to come off again.

I used hot glue last time, but it didn't last long.

I see that common consensus is either silicone adhesive or 3M weatherstrip adhesive (gorilla snot).

Does anyone have any other suggestion that might work better?

TIA

unless u find a high strength epoxy... best is to glue it and clamp it together... use wood fern strips on each side of the clamps to insure u dont have circle marks on the glove, and it gives better even clampage

id go with 3m epoxy.. comes in a 2 stage tube , when u push the end it mixes the premixes together .. holds like cement , but still stays a bit flexible and holds in high heat

I used this (http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1265202) permanent mounting tape to put my glove box cover back on. It's been through a Florida summer with no signs of coming loose. I essentially covered it with the tape and then pressed it in place. If you use this make certain you get it aligned when you put it on the glove box because it isn't coming off again.

You won't beat 3M Window Weld. its the stuff used to attach windsields to the car. Its designed to hold the windshield onto the car even in a roll over. Trust me on this one. its great stuff. Ive used it on all those pieces on the back of door panels that love to fall off. Those parts are NOT falling off anymore...ever seen many cars with windshields that became unattached to the car? Broken/smashed and totally destroyed maybe but you'll be hard pressed to find one that actually came off because the adhesive failed.

True. All the ones that I have seen blown out are because the clear or base coat failed and the window came out with the paint stuck to the urethane.

Make sure you use lots of clamps and whatever you use for adhesive...let it set 24 hours before you take them off.

Out of curiousity, what exactly is coming off?

Not the lid (door) itself I guess, unless you have broken tabs.

Used Gorilla on mine. Clamped overnight. Not going anywhere now.

I need to take care of this too... I'm going to use some Zap-A-Gap PT-02 and Zip Kicker PT-15 (Accelerator for Super Glues). I've used it on different surfaces before and once it dries (fraction of a second) the bond is strong. Just gotta make sure I don't glue my fingers LOL

I went with Fly's suggestion.

The 3M window weld works like a champ.

Now I can drive in comfort knowing that my glove box lid will not fall off when I roll the car over.

Regular 2 part epoxy doesn't work, nor liquid nails.
