A few months ago while driving home from my local bmw dealership, my car randomly developed a misfire, It would bog the car whenever I pressed the gas, and pop like crazy. Well I pulled over to check everything, checked oil, made sure the coils were on good and tight. Since I had no tools at the time with me, not much I could do. Well after I inspected everything best I could, I shut the engine off and let it cool for about ten minutes. Went to fire her back up, and behold! The misfire was gone. Drove home the rest of the way fine.

Well months later (last night) it happened again. Car started fine, ran fine, then out of no where, a misfire starts. Well I just took the car out to see if it was any better, and YES! It was fine! Drove a short trip to the gas station, and on the way back I decided to open it up, just incase it was carbon deposits causing sticky valves or something. Well after a nice hard pull, The misfire came back again. I have no idea where to even start with this. My main suspects are: Dirty MAF, loose or failing coils, Loose spark plugs, maybe vacuum leak? If it was a vacuum leak I would think it wouldn't come and go as it pleases. I've done a little research, and came across one thread where a guy mentioned he had just rebuild his vanos and was having the same problem. Everyone who replied thought maybe the vanos was sticking. I have replaced my vanos seals and added the anti rattle kit less than 1K miles ago...Also there is NO CEL!!! Which I think rules out the MAF because if I unplug it I get a CEL. Any input would be very helpful guys.:help

A little update: Pulled every coil it seems the No. 6 spark plug well is full of milky oil. Is this a sure sign of headgasket/cracked head?

Not to worry. Your valve cover gasket is leaking oil into the spark plug wells causing the spark to jump under load. Some water got in there to make it look milky.

Replace valvecover gasket, spark plugs and spark plug boots.

I even have some Bremi spark plug boots I could sell ya.

Sure, I'd be interested as my boots are way past due for a changing. Yup ended up just being water getting splashed in as I don't have my coil cover on and it has been raining alot here. I just sucked all the milky oil out, cleaned plug, and all coil boots as well as MAF. Runs fine... for now.

Also I don't believe the plug gaskets are leaking. I think it was just left over oil residue inside of the coil boots, finally made its way down resting in the plug hole. VC Gasket has less than 1000miles. Also, I found a vacuum leak aswell.
