THE BAD:

Being it's a 23 year old car there are some things you would expect.
However most of these issues have been attended to.
What remains are only items which I had not gotten around to or lived with for they are extremely minor.

Here they are:

Gas tank needs to be realigned. When replaced there was a plastic shim which wasn't seen when it was installed.
So the tank nozzle pushs the gas door out.
As well Gas tank straps were replaced with heavy duty strapping.
Tank does not sag or move. It is secured perfectly and not noticable.

Due to rust, front jack points have been removed and replaced with fresh BMW sheet metal.
Undercoating and other preventive measures were made to make it solid.

4 dings in car (left fender, lower left door, right rear door, and I think one in rear left door)

Drivers and rear doors need new actuators. I lived with them for drivers door still locks trunk, hood, and front passenger door.
I have kids so rear doors are better suited for me since I alway have the child locks on them.

Door entry seals are a worn could use replacements.

Rear taillight harness was damaged. Rear lights have been rewired and work properly. However "light out message comes up on dash"
Never got around to installing need harness. Doesn't affect anything or the performance of the lights.

I have a large Leather 3 ring binder full of receipts, pictures, and documentation of everything done or bought for this car since being in my possession.

and then heres the email he sent me:

The body has 288K+
Engine was bought and head work was done to refresh 3 years ago so at that time the car had roughly 235k+
Clutch and flywheel have also been replaced when engine was removed.
Valve adjustments, and regular maintenance has been performed on the car since engine replacement.
The 3.46lsd diff is the original diff and has also been maintained.
This is one of 2600+ 535i models that came with a 5 spd manual from the factory into the US.
This is not a manual trans swap.
Clutch is tight, car responds as it's supposed to.

It has been on daily driver duty since engine replacement.
No tracking or racing whatsoever.

Other major rust issues? No. All serious areas of rust which would effect performance and upkeep of the car have been R&R'd.

Mind you this car has undergone a restoration and as been cared for by an e34 enthusiast and BMW european parts specialist.

Simply put, if there were any issues that haven't been disclosed in the ad which there are not.
To find and build a e34 m30b35/5 parallel to mine will cost you the asking price if not more.
You must research to see the validity.

FWIW, I am in no rush to sell my car. This being said,
If your looking for a steal of a deal on a e34 535i/5 that is 98% complete with most if not all the most sought after options available plus performance add ons.
For 5k this is the car.

If your looking to obtain this car for less. I can work with you.
However there will be compromises made and parts removed.
ie:
5000.00 gets it all
4000.00 no wheels (bring your own wheels)
3500.00 no wheels, no turbo kit

my question is, is he asking too much? 5gs seems like a lot to me given the high miles on the body, rear and trans but idk much about the value of one of these with all the things done to it.
Thanks in advance for the help and sorry for such a long post.

Having closely followed the journal of work on this one, I would say buy it without hesitation. A lot of good work has gone into that car.

Thanks for the input fellas this definately answers my question it seemed to be a real solid car from the ad and email but knowing that others know of this car and the quality of work put into it puts any fears I had to rest. Now I just need to find time to go see it in person :/

^^ Same as above. This car is a fine example of the breed, buy without hesitation. The seller is also an upstanding member of the forum, and many of us have had good experiences dealing with him, so no hesitation there either.

P.S. I love the fact that I got to 'satin paint', then 'Alpina lip' then knew exactly which car it was... :rofl Solid car, from a solid buy. Buy it before someone else does...

why is he selling??

I think I remember him toying with the idea before - like he was thinking about selling his R32. Gonna get some new toys is the answer, I suppose...

why is he selling??

I'm selling because I need a bigger car.

It's been a great car, great experience restoring and a pleasure to drive. So why not pass it on to someone to take it to the next level.

That said Pirate pm me and we'll talk.

Thanks guys for the support. :buttrock

Most recent three before custom shadowline was removed for OEM Shadowline also with KW v2s installed

Yes, when I sold the skyline I was going to pick up a friends S55 brabus build but the commissioner stepped in and now that money's in escrow while we wait for the right house.

The skyline was fun when I was about 15 years younger. Now, it would have been too much. It wasn't really built for DD or even weekend driving. It was El Diablo in the flesh. The pull was insane. I drove it on route 400 in Atlanta. I nailed it from the toll plaza to Lenox Mall exit. (forgot the actual street name)

Now I've driven a few Fast cars in my lifetime from Muscle to exotic. Nothing and I mean nothing can compare to it.

The buyer gave me 125k for it. Which I was more than happy to turn the keys over for.

Hok, which shade? That would be a nice look for it.

I woulda been persuaded to relinquish the keys for that price too... Never had that much money in my hands all at once. Go to the bank and request it all in quarters and try to swim in it like mc duck. Then have them put it all back!

ROFL. Yeah that would be a sight. Or same scenerio but with dimes. Take a slingshot and zip them across the room.

Yeah it was a moment to smile about. But again everything happens for reasons.

Steve I'll contact the new owner and see if he has any pics he can share. I only have what I had posted previously when I went back to Atlanta to take delivery as well as some real old pics which need to be scanned to view.

It's just one of those situations where if you want something bad enough you'll go that extra mile to get it.

The guy who bought it really wanted it.
He wouldn't let me leave the gas station where we met till we made a deal on the spot.
I explained to him with all the work that was done to it and the BS I went through to get it into the states I wasn't really ready to let it go yet.
He understood and said name your price to walk away. The rest ya'll know.

OH BTW I was one of the guys in to buy Googone's M5 as well.
Glad it was picked up by someone. Great looking and well maintained car.
Wife killed that too. But things happen for reasons and now we're house shopping with a bigger budget. So all is well.

HOK Kandy COBALT BLUE

god i have loved that color since high school, friend of mine had his 72 chevy step side painted that color, it was navy in the daytime which blue highlights, and at night it looked black, except under sodium street lamps, when it turned a vivid violet with purple highlights.

I was reading and reading and reading and i thought to myself, that car must go for at least around m5 money thinking about how much goodies comes with the car (745i turbo kit! I can vouch for that is a really good setup even at stock with small mods as i got it myself in the e28 but with the complete engine as well)

But, when i read the price of 5k i was like, wtf..

DEFINATELY WORTH EVERY PENNY i'd say. i'd buy that without even looking at it first, just pay and then worry about how to get it home and do it ASAP :) hehe

OK guys I found my new whip. The guy is holding it for me till friday. So this means letting this go for 3500 without the wheels. So if you want come get it by friday. As well I'm leaving town this weekend so lets make it happen.

Otherwise I'm going to keep it, complete everything including repaint then probably sell down the road.
