Ok so my suspension is based off the e12 5 series, but when I look for lowering springs from my 80 635 i don't get the same options as the e12. I would like to lower 1.5 or so. I am not entirely against chopping the tubes up and making coilovers, but if the b&g 1.6 drop springs (e12) work then that is the route I will go. Oh by the way the springs I found for the 635 are suspension technique with 1.0 drop.

I will also be putting bilstein sports on front. with the larger drop, do I need to worry about the stroke with shorter springs? If so where can I find the info on the bilstein part numbers and their specs?

Who else has wanted to lower an early e24 and what did you end up doing?

I believe my car has the stock springs with Bilstein HD shocks.

It rides preetty stiff, but is still comfortable over the bumps. Heights doesn't seem too low, but there is lots of rear negative camber by nature.

Any E12 springs/shocks should works as the suspension is dientical, and there is lots of room under the fenders, so you shouldn't have to worry much about your wheel/tire combo rubbing.

In my opinion, it may not be the best idea to go coilovers, because it is getting tougher to find the strut assemblies. With the larger Euro sway bars, the car will lean less by nature, and slammed E24's don't look all that great.
You could go Bilstein Sports if you find a matching spring set, and that way you can adjust the height of the rear, and if you really wanted the front lower, you could cut the lowering springs a coil or so. But it is your car, so whatever route you want to take.

Here's my car BTW:
