Just picked up a 1986 635CSI and besides the A/C dying during the trip home and it could use a tune up, the biggest problem seems to be the gauges in the center and right side of the pod acting up. Temp gauge works sometimes but is usually pegged to max temp. Tach will blip on for a split second now and again. The MPG gauge is non functional and the gas gauge I suspect reads lower than what is in the tank. The Speedometer and Odometer work fine.

I suspect a bad SI Board per my reading here. Should I be concerned about circuits in other areas of the instrument cluster? Where is the best source and price on SI boards?

Regards,
JE

Bump. Anyone?

Will cutting off the bad batteries get me functioning gauges until I get a new SI Board?

JE,

Did you find a solution to this? I know I have bad batteries and corrosion on my SI board (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1908458). But all I really want is working gauges. Fully functional service interval lights seem to be a luxury that could be put off until the right deal came along.

You may have resolder joints that were damaged from leaking battery acid...

Contact Greg Mannino at M&M Auto Electronics (gregmannino@gmail.com)
He will replace the batteries and test the entire board for $85 shipped. He did
mine and I couldn't be happier with the results. He will turn it around in about a week.
