Just noticed that when I turn the key ALL 3 brake lights come on.Depressing the brake peddle does nothing. With the key off and pressing the peddle the lights don't work.I tried a couple of LKMs that I have and it makes no difference.I have searched sites for a while and nothing popped up related to my problem.I have no error codes BTW.I did see something about possibly frayed trunk harness wires but again the OP's problem was not mine.
Thanks in advance guys/girls.

Sorry if these are obvious questions, but have you checked the switch on the pedal? Have you tried pulling the pedal up to see if the lights go out.

I can check that but shouldn't you be able to get brake lights with no key,in any car?

I have seen that feature in old movies that featured old American cars in them.
BTW, the brake switch pin, that supposed to contact the brake pedal, has a weird adjusting mechanism. If it gets pushed to far in, and that can easily happen, then it won't contact the brake pedal to switch off.

Most of our cars in NZ, you can depress the brake pedal and the brake lights will illuminate with no key in the ignition.
