transmission question

Guys,

I've got two 260 transmissions; a 260/5 and a 260/6. notwithstanding the fact that the /6 is the more desirable transmission, what other ways can I determine which is the better functional unit to go in my car when I do the swap? Let's assume they were the same unit. Anything I can do to make a determination? Oil color?

I guess you could look for metal shavings on the magnetic drain plug. If you don't know the mileage, or open them up, there's not much else to go on.
