Not ok if it's setting the light off, i'm guessing the t-stat is stuck open...a new one should fix it, then just clear the code.

I was getting that same code...first without a t-stat installed and just having the controller run my water pump, then with it installed, but having too many(or too big) "flow" holes drilled in the t-stat. Now with the unmodified t-stat installed, it's fine.

Yes, I did it myself...there are only 3 other people besides me that I let work on my car.
It's not hard if you remove the air filter box.

At work, I do BMW/MINI parts in Warwick, RI.

You can order one from here...

...and my manager will process the order.

Just saw another thread of yours...you have an '08 MINI?...the R56 body style?

If you do have the newer body style, then everything I posted above doesn't apply.
Your car has a totally different setup...the thermostat/housing is a complete assembly and much more difficult to replace than mine.

You can still order it from my website though.

The bleeder screw is right in the thermostat housing...does the car still have the BMW/MINI coolant in it right now? If so, then you have to use that when you go to refill after you change the thermostat...or flush everything out completely and fill it with something else.
