Just turned 50 and my wife said get the car you want. I decided on a 2012 535i loaded with M Sport, Technology, and Premium Packages. I read the manual every day to figure out all the gizmos. This is my 1st BMW. The car is awesome. One question...why is the rectangle in the lower part of the instrument panel light up
Iighter than the rest of the panel at night?

That is the dynamic LED area on the cluster, it can display info that changes and requires text, it is lighter because it is an actual LED screen as opposed to rest of the dash which is just black plastic with lightbulb cutouts for things that are not dynamic like check engine lights or the lane departure stuff, those don't require an LED screen.
