Okay so picked up a 01 530i with 90k on the clock.

When I test rode it, it didn't make this noise butttt now it is.

Ticking sound near the front of the engine, changes with rpms.

Chain tensioner spring thing?

Oil is full.

Ill have to look into it more when I get on a real computer. I'm on my phone and its a pita to search.

How hard is this seal to replace and how much?

Thanks for the help btw.

Is this what I need? Double rattle kit?

What causes the vanos to make this ticking sound? And is it dangerous to drive?

In the beisan web page told you everything you need to buy and to do to replace your vanos seals...
From 1 to 10 (1 easy and 10 harder) I rated this job in a 3, I think the harder part its to take off your fan clutch and the cover of the fan clutch (the one who has attach the expansion tank).....
Taking off the vanos unit are pretty forward....

Thanks, looks more tedious than anything.

So was looking over the records, and this thing has been maintained pretty well. The Radiator was replaces at 44k, but then replaced again at 53k along with the thermostat. Guess it started leaking where it is sodered.

At 75k there was a big service done, then 1000 miles before he traded it in, had a 800 dollar service done, then another 2500 service. He had it checked out and replaced everything they said. Some gaskets, ect.

Guess at 90k it started overheating so he had it towed. Leaking upper hose and that was replaced, so I suppose it would be prudent of me to replace the lower?

Other than, man this thing is tip top. Only other problem is the wire that connects the sliding action for the front passenger seat is disconected, and I had trouble yesterday getting it to move, so gotta figure that one out.

Is anthrocite the same as steel gray? Some of the paper work says anthrocite, some says steel gray?

I'll take some pictures here soon. I love driving it, 10000x nicer than my last car.

I have a R6 race bike for most of my getting around town, this is more for when I don't want to use the bike, and longer trips. I've gone a couple years without a car before and effff that noise. haha

Paint color is on a sticker on the underside of the hood. It'll be in German.
