Door edge protection for my 328i Coupe

The Coupe has bigger doors and I know that it is only a matter of time before an unaware passenger sitting in my car will open the door too wide and hit a neighboring car.

What can I do to protect my door edges?

Educate your passengers. Unfortunately not much else will work if ppl are careless. Enabling auto lock will give you some time to yell though while they figure out the double clutch open mechanism.

Excellent suggestion, and I intend to do just this. Having said that, is there anything else I can do? Can I use clear mask material (professionally installed, of course)?
