View Full Version : 2009 335i -- SIRIUS display of Artist/Song possible?

My g/f just bought a 2009 335i Convertible with iDrive and SIRIUS.
I have a 2010 Z4 with SIRIUS. In my Z4, I can bring up a menu to rotate between SIRIUS Channel, Artist, and Song currently playing.
I can't find this anywhere on the 2009 335i. Is it possible?
Has there been an iDrive software update to allow this?
I'm stunned this isn't available. I was arguing with the SAs at the dealership that it must be possible since I can do it on my Z4, which by all other indications, is running the same iDrive software.
Thanks.
*** The dealership also told me they don't do software updates under warranty unless they have a TSB or something onboard is actually failing. So even if there were a software update available, I'd either have to pay an hourly rate for the update, or they would have to find an TSB to get BMW to pay for the time for the s/w update.

Based on this thread, I'd say there could be an OEM software update.

I have a 2010 328 convertible and all the info shows on the iDrive screen. While what you say may indeed be true, I find it hard to grasp that such a late model, premium car would only display the sat channel playing, especially since econobox cars with sat radio have done this very thing for years...
There has to be more to this story. Was the sat radio an original option or added later by a dealership?
I just checked the BMW owners manual for your car and the picture on the sat radio section in the manual clearly shows artist and title.
Go to the owners section of bmwusa.com and download the owners manual, if you don't have the one supplied with the vehicle.

Thanks. I downloaded the manual for a 2009 335i convertible, and on pages 152 and 153, there is no indication of the ability to display artist or song info for Sat Radio.
I think what you saw was the other sections for CD and USB supplied music.

Look at page 151, top left of the page, at the picture of the satellite display screen, under "Selecting a channel".
You should see the musical group "Snow Patrol", and the song selection "Chasing Cars".
Isn't that the info you wanted to see displayed on your screen?

Ok, yes, that screen does display the artist and song on the currently playing channel. What I'm looking for is to change the full channel list to display the Artist or Song playing on *every* channel.. so one can scroll through the list of channels and see the Artist or song playing on each one before changing the channel. This is how my 2010 Z4 works -- I can rotate the channel list to display channel name, Artist, or Song.

I don't think that's an option on this car. That's a nice option...
