2008 E92 error code-camshaft timing question

I took my 2008 E92 on its first trip, 4hrs each way, since I got it (45 days ago), and both times after I drove it for over hour I got the exclamation point. Stopped at a Autozone on the way back and the kid read the code and unplugged it before I could get a glance at the screen. He said it was

"Camshaft B Timing retarded"

I am not an expert in cars, but I thought the engine would be running rough or if this was really the problem, it wouldn't take over an hour for it to show up, am I wrong?

I will have the dealer look at it this week, it is under warranty.

It will probably end up being a vanos solenoid

solenoids and do an oil change using OEM filter.

Had The same issue with my car.
It has to do with the vanos system which is exactly what others up top posted.

It's like a grand at the dealer but warranty is always ur friend lol

A grand? More like 2-300 bucks out of warranty. VANOS solenoids are not that expensive.

That's odd , I was told by my SA that it wouldn't cost me a grand had I not had warranty. I am in Canada though so maybe that makes a difference in parts ?
