View Full Version : How much $$ to put a CSB in a e24?

I've got a rather inexpensive 6er. My last car was a '79 volvo 262 coupe with a chevy 350 V8. My 6er is a bit slower.

Since it's never going to be a concours car (it's been in a front-end collision, and there are cosmetic blemishes all over), I've been tossing around the idea of a V8 conversion. (You guys are going to hate me for this... I know people on this forum like to keep conversions within the BMW brand.) Also considering buying a real junk e24 to try this out with.

But Chevy's are cheap. A 2-bolt main one from a Buick Roadmaster can be had for a few hundred. You could buy engine mounts for a Chevy Small Block that fit in the Volvo 262 on the internet. Is there any chance a similar thing exists for the e24?

Ive seen this page: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/archive/index.php?t-796664.html

Looks like theres a lot of work to be done.

But before I put too much thought in this, how much time and money would have to go into a project like this?

I know what you mean, I like to think about how my 6er would be if it had a decent punch of power.

For something as specific as this, I'd check out the Conversions section of the forum. I've read their little FAQ and it says a good swap can cost between $2500 and $15,000.

Suggest you contact Edgeman on the Roadfly site ..... he has done one.

Hmm. Looks like I was getting a little dreamy last night. (although a $2500 budget conversion sounds like it would be pretty cool).

God I miss the V8 volvo. If any of you get a chance to buy something like that, go for it.

Yes, a 262c with a V8 is simply awesome!

My fave monster hybrid is a euro E30 with the BMW V12... several have been done very cleanly. I think I saw one with a 6-sp manual as well. (not sure though)

Read the title, and thought center support bearing. I would like to see a documented, well documented, v8 swap. It seems like a good bang for the buck, and I'm all for hybrids. I leave my purist opinion with nice euros, and m cars
