Has anyone here done this? ^^

There's an e39 listed on this site's classifieds forum of which I really would not mind being the next owner. But the process has got to be complicated, costly and time consuming.

Could you share your story (if you have one, of course) about a state to state transaction, or what sort of costs I'd be looking at? Thank you kindly. :D

I don't see why either option (going there or having it sent to you) would be needlessly complicated, costly or time consuming over buying a car anywhere else.

If I wasn't going personally, I'd use a broker (unless you trust the person on the other end), otherwise I believe everything else would be pretty straightforward. If you were buying from a reputable dealer you could skip the broker. If I had to use a broker I'd rather go there personally instead as the fees to a broker are usually paid by the buyer.

I bought my last two BMW's out of state. They took care of all the paper work to get transfered to my state.

Go down there and see the vehicle, drive it, have a PPI done, and then go to the bank or a notary to have the paperwork done.

If you are buying from a dealer, they'll take care of your paperwork and give you a temporary plate.

If you are buying from an owner, you'll have to draw up a Bill of Sale and maybe have a notary signed off on it. The owner will more than likely have to remove his state's plates, so you'll have to see if their state's, or your state's, DMV offers a temporary plate you can print. If not, make your own IN TRANSIT sign, put it on the back, and make sure you have all paperwork on you if you get pulled over.
