Hi all
Just got my first BM its an oldish 2001 X5 with 104000 on it that's UK miles. Got it for the part X price from a dealer mate so it was very cheep. It drives and sounds well is very very clean for year and miles and never been off road with an old lady owner for the last 5 years. Only problem I can see is a small oil leak showing at the front right drive shaft rubber. Might even be just spilt oil that been the result of an oil change? Had a very quick look under it but the belly pan bolts spin and dont undo so need to get this off to have a good look. I am a mechanical / electrical industrail mainetance engineer so will do all my own servicing. Any advice on what to check on this car or common problems etc would be welcomed
Thanks Rob

Check your trunk and spare area for water intrusion.

Thanks I did notice some damp on the spare wheel which still has the brand new tyre on. I think this seemed like condensation the jack was a bit rusty but looks unused. Is there a problem in this area? I will dry it out today.

Yeah water builds up back there and ruins all the modules it can reach into. This causes various malfunctions and battery drain issues. If you notice dampness, you should definitely take a closer look at the area.

I see what you mean all sorts of electical crap in there is the wet possibly from the air suspension compressor? Saying that this car has not been run for two days and now it is dry under there. All the paint work is like new the only rust is on the jack and that is minimal surface dots that will wipe off with an oily rag. Just vacced a load of dry dust out the bottom even got the new tool bag with 2 spanner 1 allen key and a screwdriver so ready for any eventuallity.
