Hi,

My Radio/Headunit/Stereo system is causing problems for me. It will be working (i.e., playing sound) then randomly begin to get quiet until it makes no sound at all (the "quieting" process takes about 1 second).

The headunit does not lose power, it just stops making the sound. It will sometimes randomly come back on but doesn't necessarily stay on for a long period of time.

I don't think it is loose wire related because it will happen randomly, on a straight road, no bumps. So it's not like I hit a bump and it gets loose, or go around a turn and it goes back into place, etc.

I don't think it's fuse related since it will start working again randomly.

It's not a single speaker or anything like that, it's all speakers... and happens in every function of the headunit (e.g., cd player, radio, etc)

Any ideas? It's annoying! Thanks for any help

Does it come back on if you fiddle with the volume control knob/potentiometer?

If so, you can clean the pot if you are electronically/mechanically inclined, or just buy a new HU.

maybe but not necessarily. i couldnt say for sure that fiddling with the volume makes it come back on; it may come back on if i play with it for a while but not necessarily because i was playing with it

it's for sure the headunit?

It's most likely the Headunit. But I am just speaking from personal experience. SCratchy and cutting out was my problem, fixed by cleaning the pot.

Wait for someone else to bounce around with their opinion too.

AE???

It actually sounds like the amp, personally.

I have a few factory radios if you need one.
