No, it's not a "problem", just trying to figure out what it is...

Basically, sometimes (ie: not always and I haven't been able to figure out the pattern), after closing one of the doors, I can hear a faint electric sound, like some motor is spinning/doing something. It shouldn't be the door locks as these are all up and I can hear it happening especially when I am hand washing the car (lots closing/opening the doors).

Any clue? I'm curious :)

I believe there is a small cooling fan behind the cd/DVD unit that starts up when the doors open. This may be what you are referring to. I've noticed this as well.

These cars make all kinds of noises, both before you start it and when you shut down. Could be any of a bunch of things you're hearing. I've just walked by mine when it was shut down for some time, and hear weird noises. From what I've read, this is normal.

Not sure about when you close the door, but when you open the door, or unlock it, and the car "wakes up", it will run the fuel pump and prime the system. You could be hearing the fuel pump run. I hear it every time on my E60

Does your front window, coupe, close the last 1/4"???? Maybe this is it...

Comfort access??? He says it only happens when he closes the door. Fuel pump primes when opening the door or unlocking via fob after the car sits for a while. Fan behind CD player - E-box fan? should only be running at ignition:ON.

OP: Do you have comfort access? Do you need to insert your key into the dash to start the car?

That's a real head-scratcher.

A sure way to tell is to let us know if you hear it after the car sits overnight and you unlock the doors with your fob, does it make the exact same noise?

If so it's definitely the low pressure fuel pump priming up.
