Electric Gremlins

so my '87 325i convertible has usually minor electric issues but one has just suddenly occurred that is potentially dangerous. This morning i turned the car on as normal and noticed the rear brake lights were on, but the third brake light was not. the brakes lights do not turn off no matter what gear P,N,D and dont care if the car's headlights are on or off, to my knowledge this has just started happening. What can i do to fix this? is the third brake light bulb burnt out ruining the circuit?:help

The most common cause of the brake lights being on would be a bad brake light switch. And in this case I'd suspect a burned out bulb in the third brake light.

Thanks man, i gave it a look and the plunger seems to have lost its spring-ness and ill try replacing the bulb!
