dunno on the E24, but my '80 732i (not 733) had working ABS.

the 633CSi and 635CSi that used the e12 chassis - no.

the e24 chassis cars, generally yes, from day one unless market dictated otherwise.

My 3/84 633 did not, so I believe the 85 onward statement would be correct.

In '80 it was appeared as an option in Europe, and then it became standard on all '85 BMW models in the US.

so this leaves me to ask...Is it a big effort to install it on an older model without it? I still haven't done the caliper and master cylinder changeover but its getting closer the more I drive it. Is it (worth) the extra cash (if it is actually more)?

All are born with abs, and while they can be strengthened with sit-ups/crunches, they are not visible under layers of fat. Cardio is required for "E24's" to have "visible" abs...

Hope that helps

I purchased my U.S. 1985 635CSi in 9/85 (manufactured 7/85). I recall the dealer advising that ABS brakes would be standard for 1986 forward but ABS had been added to late production 1985's. My 1985 sales brochure (page 2) states the following:

"Revolutionary--one of the milder words that will be applied to the BMW 635i's new Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS). ABS positions sensors at every wheel..." (etc).

I also recall that Anti-theft radios were added to the late production 1985's.
