Hello,

I drive a 2007 328i with around 63,000 miles on it and I just had a couple questions.

1. When I press the brakes, it makes a squeaking noise, however its not really when I press the brakes that it makes the noise, its when I'm letting my foot off the break is when it starts to squeak a little. What does this mean? This doesn't happen all the time though! Just sometimes

2. Sometimes when I'm driving relatively slow, especially like up a hill or something, the car kind of lunges or bucks slighty.

3. When Im parking or going extremely slow and then stopping, (think like your adjusting a parking job, aka short distances, very slow.) the car seems like it groans. Also when the car bounces a little, like if I'm going over a speed bump very slowly, it kinda makes a small noise as if you're opening up a new dr. pepper bottle or something haha.

I mostly worry about question one. I don't know if i should really be worried about any of these. There aren't any warning lights on when I turn on the car so I don't really know if there is anything to be concerned about, I just wanted to get some other opinions. Thank you for any feedback.

I get this with my car, too, as well as several other folks on these forums. There are a few topics about it already. From what I have gathered, there is no real (permanent) fix. The issue may be related to the break wear sensor rubbing against the rotor under these conditions. When I hear this noise, it always subsides when I pick up some speed (e.g., > 20-25 mph). One service advisor suggested that I get on the brakes harder to scrub off some of the glazed friction material. This is difficult to do in stop-and-go traffic, however. :)

2. Sometimes when I'm driving relatively slow, especially like up a hill or something, the car kind of lunges or bucks slighty.

Not sure about this one.

Not sure about the groaning part, but the popping noise when going over small bumps could be a couple of things. Have the ball joints checked and maybe the strut bearings as well. There are probably other things that could cause this, but those are two that come to mind based on similar problems with other cars that I've owned.

Ok thank you so much for your help Max Rebo. Could any of these be serious problems?

I don't think these are serious problems.

Most all disc brakes squeak at some point in time. As long as your brakes are maintained, some squeaks are normal. As for the lunge or bucking, that also sound normal for your car. The transmission is not silky smooth, and does lunge a bit when downshifting going slowly uphill. There's other threads on this issue. I actually don't mind it on my car, as to me this indicates a positive shift with little slippage.

In regards to the noises when going over bumps, isn't that the sound of your shocks compressing and releasing?

The groaning sound and your squeaky brakes may very well be related...
