Hi

It can't be clean enough and I can't find enough things to do for it.

As some of you know I have had my 1988 low mile original M6 in storage for a long time. Essentially since buying it in 2008 I have never really had the chance to spend much time with it. During my ownership I have maybe put 1000 miles on it in that past 4+ years. In the last 18 months prior to my trip to Miami it had only traveled 50 Kilometers between the two oil changes. Thats was essentially the shop, my home, storage place, and then back to the shop 18 months later.

So, now thats its in my hands again (woohoo)...I am wanting to replace everything and anything that I can find showing any signs of wear. Even hidden items like the hood rubber stoppers. One has been changed and now I'm ordering the other side.

Since pulling it out of storage a month ago I've spent $3000 in maintenance. I'm very ok with that as aside from fluid changes and the purchasing of the car I have not had to had to spend a penny on it. Plus, the recent 3K in maintenance was more comprised of very proactive stuff that I've wanted addressed and not items that had broken. That is with the exception of the one rear shock mount top plate, clutch master and slave cylinders, and maybe the new OEM radiator that only failed by developing a leek after I had it pressure tested. It probably would have lasted another year or more until it developed a leek under regular use but I am not interested in it happen while on the road.

Now I'm going through it and wanting to address anything to make it even more perfect. It doesn't help to be reading things like the Rondel article of the perfect M6 either...

Next on my list as budget permits since in don't have a bottomless pocket book,

-New rubber seals around the chrome door handles as they R wearing and dry
-Looking for cup holders
-Just got the front license plate delete trim from the recent group buy
-Will want to get the most lower rock guard section of the sides touched up
-In the process of sourcing & then refinishing a set of 16" BBS RS's
-Looking for the right detail shop to do a full detailing, to include wet sanding
-Now considering new front kidney grills & matching front trim to look as new
-I want to get a custom dash cover to protect the dash from developing a crack
-I am considering lowering my M to the European rid height but hoping I can keep the SLS

I am still looking for more. Looks like I now have a problem.

Covering the dash is a sure way to guarantee it will crack. I guess the heat stays under the cover and cooks it even more. Best bet is to always use a windshield sunshade when you park outside even for a short time.

Max,
Ongoing psychiatric help will be cheaper (if less fun) in the long run than getting obsessive~compulsive about the car.
When I hit the $45K mark in disbursements on mine my wife surreptitiously arranged a partial frontal lobotomy for me. I've been very happy ever since the operation and don't even bother washing the car any more.

I was thinking something along the lines of a lighter than black, but not too light where it will impede driving, type custom cut carpet that would still be loos and allow breathing to keep the direct sunlight off of it. Maybe I need to go nuts and have something tabbed thats a little more stiff where it can remain raised an inch via a rubber stopper.

I am also going to look into those treatment products.

Taylor,

You always make me laugh. By the way, can you email me an engine pic of your car along with what you git running in there. There is a local shop here with a guy that owns one who was curious. Yes, I do talk about your car.

Thanks

Max

I remember those days years ago, hopefully I will get back to that one day...BTW, you really should buy this rear sun shade I have, you never know when you might need it ;) It is a new in the wrapper factory unit.
