A looong time ago, late 90s I think, back on the BCG email lists, I remember hearing about and seeing photos of an E24 onto which someone had grafted the nose and tail from an E32. I remember seeing several photos of different angles and I seem to remember really liking it.

Since then I have tried to find it, and only found one very small photo.

Anybody know more about this hybrid?

I remember Shogun (the e32 guru of bimmerforums) once posting a picture of it. Perhaps you could PM him and see if he has any information.

I know to each their own and I always respect what anyone wants to do to their own cars. That said, I personally don't like it. For me, the SHARK nose of a sixer is a big part of its appeal. Actually I like everything about it from the front profile, side profile, and rear profile. I even love the camber of the rear wheels. There aren't many cars that I can say I love every angle of.

That's like the guy in WA, who years ago grafted the front of a 450SEL Benz sedan onto a 450 SL. Puuuuke!!

This is a different one but also has an E32 rear

Gives me an idea of how good these cars would look with a not-too-bulgy box-flare kit

I have to admit, it look really hot with the flares and blacked out chrome. Almost E30 M3 like.

I like it (minus the rear E32 end of it).

Did a quick photoshop, shooped away the amber markers. Looks more like an E24, but also more like an older E30 rear... Interesting.

Haha, for me I guess it pairs my 2 DDs.

Personally I think it looks more like a logical evolution of the 6er. If they had kept the 6 in the 90's and given it the V12 + V8 this is what it would have looked like.

I like it.

I like the side mirrors on the box-flared six.

I wonder how they would look on a non-widebody car. (And if they're still available somewhere.)

The rears of our E24's is one of my favorite features. Very aggressive, sleek and wide. Why change that? Different folks, different strokes I guess.

I definitely agree with the E24 tail... and if it was good enough for the M1, tis good enough for me.

I just wish I could find those high res photos of the E32/E24 hybrid. Not better, but still very interesting, a natural progression in a way.

And while I'm thinking about it, there is one other BMW coupe that could have been a worthy successor to the E24 (aside from the ubercar E31), the E34 M5 cabrio! I have photos of this beast if anyone is interested. Too bad they never produced it.

Thats E32 vert is absolutely beautiful.

Also , I took the liberty to un-widen that E24 (a very fast photochop) ....and make it Delphin.....i think I like it better this way :)

Personally I think it's glorious. It's what the 6 series should have been from '88-'97 or so. I guess they didn't need another car to compete with the 8 series, but it was almost double the price. I think they could have done with both.

The fact that they were able to sell an expensive luxury car even when it's body was 13 years old is a tribute to how beautiful the original 6 is. They really should have kept it going and modernized it. But on the other hand you might compare the e24 to a great musician, better to die young and be remembered for greatness than to get old and release some stupid albumns that everyone hates.

Hmmm.... for the Photoshop able: try E24 with E31 nose...

Just curious, since we are mixing and matching, why not go all the way?

I think I prefer the original shark nose over all.

It's also remarkable how the e24 seem to "warm up" to people who may not be interested in BMW's in the first place. After a few sights they tend to really appreciate the design, or get downright hooked!

There was a cover article about the E34 M5 vert in BMW Car (British mag) a year or so ago. There was a visible thick metal frame that held the two halves together, so it was not an engineered chassis.

BMW car is a nice magazine, wish it were cheaper though.
