Unbelievable.. The colored interior trim is just about self destructing.
A few years back the left door panel rest, just behind the window buttons had the beige paint crumble off, recently the trim strip on the top of the auto shifter handle has peeled off, the center console is loosing its paint as well. Even in the back seat, which is never used, the paint has worn off of the little console in the back where the air conditioning vent is.

Uggh whaaaaaa. Zero wear, like how does this happen? My wifes shitty Nissan looks way better than my BMW. They should be ashamed of putting out a product like this.

Do you park in the sun often? I would leave the sunroof open if you do and get a sunshade.

Was this bought used? These things do not usually happen under normal conditions. If it was bought used, my bet is that the PO used some harsh cleaning chemicals. And no, that does not mean they should recall the cars. Most peeling issues are due to external sources but since BMW cannot prove it, they usually cover peeling under warranty for customer satisfaction. You's be shocked at how ignorant some people are and what products they used to clean the interior of their cars, or even their wheels and then complain about peeling.

I agree, it does suck, but they won't recall it. Not a safety issue. I understand that cover it if under the original warranty, but for most people I think it occurs afterwards.

Garaged.

Bought slightly used, 9k miles, however too many people with same issues to blame the guy I bought it from.. I have had 5 BMW's, I am not attacking them but frankly they should be doing an apology.

You mean the fact that he want's BMW to recall the '06 325 because his trim is peeling isn't at the top?

This is a known issue, if you have had 5 BMW's, you should know this by now. They do replace trim under warranty for peeling though (not CPO).

You guys are right. It is my fault that BMW produced and sold a car with known cracking and peeling issues. What the heck was I thinking? I must have momentarily thought I was buying an Lexus. Thank you so much for putting me in my place and letting me know how fortunate I have been to spend my money with BMW...

Not making fun of you for the peeling issue, it sucks, it's been around forever and still is a problem (similar to their cooling systems). But it's something small and normally overlooked by the driving capabilities. If you bought your BMW for their interior, you bought the wrong car.

However, I am making fun of you for saying BMW should do a recall because of interior trim cosmetic issues. That's just too funny not to comment on.

Rather than use high quality, soft touch plastics (the top of the dash is an expensive example), BMW saves money by using the same crappy, hard plastics you would find in a Kia and spays them with a soft, (and not very durable) paint. A few of the high-end car companies are using this same paint all over the interior, unfortunately.

They have to increase the profit margin somehow...

Actually this is part of the continued process of trying to stay "green" meaning most of the car is recycleable. This is a fail on their part, they know it and I had my steering wheel trim replaced, it bubbled again on a car this is garaged and is taken care of meaning I don't wear rings and am ultra careful.
Something I have to live with. I think they improved the durability in 09 but not certain.

Although this may be a well known problem, I never had the problem to this extent in my earlier BMW's. They were 5 series but I really doubt that had anything to do with it.

While I did not buy my car for the interior, I do however expect quality, not flash, from BMW in all elements of construction, especially when it affects the value of my car..

At the end of the day it's still a 6 year old car, it will have some issues. Just be lucky that it's a cosmetic issue and not something bigger. If it really bothers you, just go buy new trim pieces. Don't really know what else to tell you.

Same issue with trim here... Had it replaced under warranty and guess what!? It did it again!!! I am just as annoyed ... You expect quality and instead you get painted plastic!

Yeah but it sure looked good in the showroom when you were considering your purchase. I don't think they care how the plastic holds up long term...

I purchase my bmw brand new in 2006. I've had problems with peeling from start. they are cheap .
I would have a paid 1000 dollars more for the car to have a better interior. I will never have another bmw again .
I let my car sit for 8 months while fighting cancer. it cost me 6000 dollars to get it running again. the floor mats in the 2006 are cheap as sh****it . the bmw accessories are cheap as can be. another thing that ruined bmw for me what is the visalus crap and their free BMW nonsense. bmws drive awesome but that's about it. I've had 3 BMW's a 1992
, a 2001 and my current 2006 it is so cheap my radio doesn't even illuminate anymore .

I had to replace the rear console cover in my car after I bought it. It was a $16 part at the dealer and the only piece that was pealing. I think they had a kid in the back seat that rubbed their foot on the rear console cover.

I experienced significant peeling on the driver's left armrest console. My car was out of warranty yet BMW replaced it as a token of goodwill since I was the original owner of the car. At first, the dealer denied me repair at no charge citing that this type of issue was not covered out of warranty but they referred me to BMW NA and after evaluating my situation they stepped up and replaced it. As an aside, I think it's helpful in a scenario like this to not to come across as angry or demanding. After all, they were not legally liable to do this repair. Just be calm, state the facts and ask them if they can work with you on resolving the problem.

Is this problem unique to 2006 models? I'm thinking no, if you can by replacement parts and experience the same issue?

What about it affecting only certain colors? I've looked at three cars recently, a 2006 with tan interior that was peeling and a 2007 and 2009 with black interiors which were both fine.

I had one piece in my tan interior peel (I think due to kids) but other than that it has been fine. The rest of the interior does not have any signs of peeling.
