Is this possible? I was just informed that I would need a security code from the DME eeprom and to enter it manually into the EWS. Iam guessing thats because this code is not in the VO but rather specific to each car. Can anyone guide on how to accomplish this task. EEprom can be read with bmw 1.4 scanner and have ncsexpert. Any help on how to go around this is much appreciated.

I have an e36 with EWSII. From what Ive read the e39 has EWSII also. It should be a simple process to align the EWS module to your DME. The problem is going to be with the chip in the key. That chip is married to the EWS module that came with the car. I don't know any way to reprogram your existing chip to match the new EWS module. I'm sure there is a way.

Please explain. I have an 3/97 E39 540i where I tried to retro an M5 cluster. PA 1.4 won't allow VIN write and factory reset field is grayed out. In order to get rid of tamper dot I did a test - I wrote VIN of M5 IKE to LCM and viola it tamper dot went away. I never drove the car. I reverted back to 540i cluster but now the car will not start because EWS took on the mileage of M5 cluster (don't know why since car wasn't driven). I've tried DIS V44, PA 1.36 & 1.4, and INPA but no beans.
PA 1.4 shows no errors for EWS, but I did notice that my DME has a different VIN than the rest of the car but since my engine & DME were replaced from a donor car many years ago and worked fine until writing the VIN of M5 cluster into the LCM.
HELP!!!!:eyecrazy
