So I've got the dreaded engine ticking noise with no warranty of any kind. I was hoping to mend it by changing to a thicker oil and using a anti-friction engine treatment. However I couldn't find any 10w40 oils that had ll-01 or any mention of BMW approval. So are there any 10w40 oil that I can use or is something like Castrol edge 10w40 ok? Also I live in a colder climate(Wisconsin) and I wanted to know if 10w40 would be ok in the winter time. I'd appreciate any help thanks.

There are a bunch of threads on oil, do a search.
Mobil1 0w40 is approved for your car, I believe.

I also have an '06 325xi, and I had the ticking once or twice when having BMW change the oil. Since doing my own, I use Mobil 1 0w40 with the LL-01 certification. I have not had any ticking since, and I do not use any other additives.
