Hello every1

I hope you guys can clarify something for me

I just got a 2009 335i xdrive from the bmw dealership

I have no clue when was the last time they changed the oil

i checked on the idrive service status and everything has an OK next to it in green

The car has 39300km on the odometer

Now when i press on the OIL option it says 2/2012, in 22000km

does that mean that the oild had to be changed at 22000km ? or does it mean it has to be changed in another 22000km ? so when i get to 61300km ?

If the second option is correct , how come since i got the car 2 weeks ago and drove something like 900km, the 22000km still says 22000km, it didnt become 21100km ?

I need clarification please

Thank you

They are all condition based services now. So it won't go by an exact mileage, it will calculate the driving conditions and how much that has broken down the oil. Once it calculates that the oil is getting close to no longer being in spec, then it will prompt you to change the oil. You can only get BMW to pay for your oil change when the car says it needs to be changed. But a lot of people will pay out of pocket to change the oil every 7.5k - 10k miles.

Also it does not always decrement by how much you drive. Since as mentioned, it is conditions based, thus depending on your driving habits, it could go down less than what you drive, and could possibly go up.
If you do not know when the oil was last changed, it is advisable to get it changed. Then if you want to follow CBS, just change it once a year or when the computer tells you to, which ever is earlier. Make sure you use BMW approved full synthetic though.
That, or do your own oil changes when you feel comfortable.
