Hi,
I have been planning to replace my factory radio with an after-market single din DVD player.

My only concern, what functionality will I lose if I replace the factory radio with the new radio.

I understand, after the replacement I won't anymore able to see following data from trip computer
- Avg temp
- Avg MPG
- Distance traveled.

If it is just that, I am ok with replacement.
But, does anyone know if I will lose some other critical functions as well?

Certainly, I don’t want to lose engine-oil gauge, backup-sensor-warning and other such critical indicators.

Kindly share your experience and insight.

Thanks!

Someone mentioned something about not being able to reprogram the car if the head unit is missing. Assuming that is the case, if you take it in for service, you could be in for trouble unless you put back the OEM head unit.

Thanks!

My car doesn't have nav, I assume the head unit you're referring probably doesn't apply to my car?

My car has single din factory stereo.

My car has single din factory stereo.
The head unit is the radio itself, it applies to all cars.

That's me who reported that the dealer can't reprogram the car if it is not the oem. At least this is what they told me. I don't know if this is true or not since they did not let me in their garage. All the function of the new installed radio are working as if nothing has been replaced! My old radio has the problem with the display, gets dimmed when hot.
So, I kept the original radio, anytime they need to do an update, i will it back, once they finish programing, I put back the replacement.
Now, if you're putting a different one such as pioneer, sony or any other brand, I don't really know if that works. Best bet is to ask the techs where you are purchasing the radio from. They probably know, or probably they installed some.

Yes, you are correct. The vehicle cannot be programmed with an aftermarket radio installed.
