Hey folks-

Just got done doing the rear brakes and a brake fluid flush on my '06 e90 325i. Looked online for an interval reset procedure and was able to reset the fluid interval with no problem. However, after trying to reset the interval for the rear brake pads, all of a sudden I was given another warning in the dash; this one was a red picture of the car on a lift. This warning will not go away now. What did I 'break', and how can I put things back the way they were? Seems like it didn't like me trying to reset the pads for some reason. Thanks!

If you had the brake warning before you changed the brakes, you must also change the brake sensor, as it is a one time use item. If the sensor was replaced or if you replaced the brakes before any brake warnings, the following process worked for me:

Push start button twice with the foot off the brake and clutch (if applicable)....when check control image disappears and all that is left is current time on the LCD panel of the instrument cluster, press and hold the odometer reset button. After a few seconds, a yellow icon will show up showing that you have service indicator light on. Push and hold the "BC" button of the turn signal stalk until it states "Reset?" let go of the button and push the button back in and hold, a little clock will come up, once the clock graphic besides the reset goes away let go. Turn the car off and resart as normal. The brake light service indicator has now been reset.

Thanks for the reply- That is actually the exact process I used, but after attempting to reset the rear pad interval there was a chime and immediately the dash showed the red 'car on a lift' warning light. I did not have a brake light warning before changing pads. However, I was doing some research online and it seems as if you may have to change the sensor with the pads every time on an e90 because it is a different type of wear sensor. Can anyone confirm this? If I change the sensor, will the 'car on a lift' fault go away after trying to reset again?

Yes new pads = new sensor.

No, once you change the sensor, then you have to go through the reset procedure to clear the 'lift' warning light. The rear sensor change isnt too bad, but the routing of the cable is kind of strange, and if I remember correctly, you have to loosen the rear inner fender well to get it out and re-installed. Not a really difficult job though. Zuti

Ah, thanks, y'all! Sensor just ordered. I'm assuming the 'lift' warning can be reset by going through that same sub-menu after the sensor is replaced?

Thanks again for the help-

Yep - That's correct.
