View Full Version : RMS still up to their BS!!

Well after 6 years I decided to sell my supercharger. I put an add in the FS forum and had a member here contact me that he was interested. He then contacted RMS and asked them to take a look at the kit I was selling to make sure it was complete. RMS told him that the brackets did not belong to them and the injectors and pulleys were also not theirs.
After hearing that I was pissed and I got on the phone with RMS. The guy that answered stated he did not talk to the other forum member, but somehow knew what I was talking about. He proceeded to tell me the same story about their company only selling 42# injectors and 8 rib pulleys with their stage 2 kits. All of the bs continued until I had him pull up my purchase history.
Several years ago I made the same call to RMS asking about a kit being sold by another forum member. Not only did Osh tell me that the kit was incomplete but he went on to say that the seller was an ex-employee and actually stole that kit and thousands of dollars in additional pieces. Not wanting to buy stolen parts I got talked into buying a brand new stage 1 kit from RMS, then upgraded a year or two later.
After spending close to $6500 with the company where do they get off trying to tell a potential buyer and me that the kit was not theirs?

If it makes you feel any better, I purchased the rms stg1 kit that's around the same age, and it came with red top injectors (30lb ford motorsports) and bracketry that doesn't have RMS all over it. Brett from technica motorsports said he's working with RMS as far as tuning is concerned, and he only has s/c tunes for 42lbers. Maybe the RMS associate was thinking something along these lines? Also if your purchaser is looking for a tune, I'd deeeefinitely hit him up for a tune. He's a great guy, knowledgeable (and will EXPLAIN what is what and why, which is rare nowadays) and will work with you at whatever pace works best. I'll let you know how my beast runs in a month once I have the tune done :buttrock

What do they charge for a s/c tune?

I believe it depends on what is needed, and the time involved. I don't want to directly quote, but figure in the ball park of 1000ish. They also have drop in fuel pump upgrades that he makes in house, and he suggests that you use the NEW ford motorsport 42lb injectors (the old style, which ford discontinued, leads to issues, which means more $$$ for your tune) I would hit up brett and speak to him for an exact price. He's not a "shelf tune" type, and the remote tune makes everything worth while, as fine tuning can be done if you have a dyno available and don't mind swapping a few emails to get the tune perfect.

Aren't they making new SC kits for E90's and blowing up engines again under a different name like Gintani? I've heard that they're blaming the engines on "weak rods or rod bearings" while ESS isn't having any issues.

Gintani is totally separate and has nothing to do with RMS. Just down the street from RMS is all.

That's not entirely true. I had several email conversations back in the day with Osh with Gintani headers. They are linked somehow.

The owner of gintani used to work there as a kid. Maybe RMS makes a few parts for them but that's about where the line stops.

That's how AA originally sent me tune revisions when we were trying a remote tune. It was a lot easier/ cheaper to send out a couple chips vs. sending the ecu back and forth. It can be yours for the right price:D

Sorry I didn't see your post last night. Here is my sale ad with some pictures. RMS is short for Race Marque Systems which is a California based company. They have always been known for great hardware (supercharger kits) but their customer service and software is questionable at best.
RMS Stage 2 Supercharger kit:

Vortech with a V2 SQ impeller (serial #36764). In February of 2008 I had a major service/ rebuild performed by Vortech which cost $1263. I put about 4000-5000 miles on the car per year, so I am guessing the rebuild has approximately 18-20 thousand miles on it (complete estimate though). Attached to the supercharger is the braided stainless steel oil feed line, high temp oil drain line and RMS oil distribution block.

When you sell the only aftercooler for the e36 for as much as a decent used s/c kit, and people buy it in droves...you're gonna stay in business. Can we say monopoly?

Tough call. Just e36 or any platform? I have no numbers to go by but I would guess if we are talking any platform I would say AA>RMS>Dinan>VF, but that is a complete guess.

FWIW I also had a fine RMS experience when I bought my stage 2 stuff from them. I came right away without any issues.
This latest BS gets even more interesting because when I spoke to that potential buyer last night I was told that it wasn't some random salesman that was giving him this line of crap, it was Osh. I can't even tell you how many times I've spoken to Osh, both on the phone and by email. It just kills me that after all the money I spent with his company he is going to turn around and tell this buyer that the kit isn't legit. That is just shady!!
I'm guessing that this may be a normal sales technique that they are using. Someone calls asking about a used kit, they find something wrong with it (stolen, parts missing, not legit RMS, whatever) then offer to sell the person a new kit instead.

Who did you hear from? This is completely wrong. Gintani and RMS are in no ways tied, as previously stated.

It isn't a monopoly when you design a great working product and other companies can't replicate it. They aren't preventing any other companies form producing their own. How is it a monopoly? Cry babies! Geez
