Hello Fellow sixers,
I plan to repaint my car. Its a bronzit, but I plan to paint it a much darker shade of bronze or maybe a two tone color like the pictures attached, what do you guys think? Secondly, what kind of paint would be the easiest to use for someone who is not that experienced in painting. I was told that the acrylic followed by clear coat is the easiest to apply. I do not plan to keep as classical but maybe with a minor twist of modernism. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I have had very good results with PPG products but I used all solvent based single stage paints. Maybe I'm lucky but I got the best advise from the guys at my local auto paint supply store and I don't believe there are many folks here that would paint the whole car on their own. As far as a 2 tone, it would be unique.

=1 on PPG. If you use a non metallic, single stage is fine. hard part of painting is the prep work and best if all trim is removed. Of course you will need a compressor and good spray gun. When you see the cost of material, you may find yourself better off having it done at a shop

Hey Bert, yes i have all the materials, gun, compressor, ect.... yes i have to see the cost of paint and see if its worth it for me to do it. :)

When I first read your post, I figured I'd scroll down and see you getting blasted about wanting to paint your e24 two-tone.
I too am not a "stock" kinda guy, and am a fan of the pic's (actually planning on picking up an e90 next year and want to white/black it just like your posted pics).
I will say that the lines of the newer cars make it easier to do this, and IMO, flow better than our older cars. Example: the e24 hood doesn't flow all the way into the grill like the newer models. It is completely surrounded by the fenders and grill housing. If you just paint the hood, then it looks like you replaced the hood from another card with a "close", but not matching color.
Maybe splitting the paint on the line where the pinstripes usually are or something similar may be a better spot to "split" between paint colors.
Just my suggestions.

DBC011, i completely agree with you on that. That why i plan to paint it single color , then will do a photoshop simulation before doing the black. Yes it has to be done tastefully, please check out the these two pics attached, one of them is an E24 which is ok but not to my liking cause he went too down on the two tone but the second one which is the E30 is how i plan to do it is just on the top side. What do you think? I really appreciate your honest opinion. thanks :)

That 2 tone E24 is more to my liking than the E30. It has the true colors of a shark, perfect.

Agree. I like the split on the e24, works with the line of the car.
What I wouldn't like is a drastic color difference with that line - ie, white/black. I think it will work well with similar/complementary colors. I would make sure there is enough of a difference in the shades that ppl can tell you did it on purpose.

funny... I photoshopped that two-tone Polaris a few years ago, still have the source files that were done from a couple angles. (not my car) I want to do something like that someday, a true shark color scheme, darker on top than bottom, in silvers or metallic blues. I split it on the body line, so it looks pretty good. I can get you the higher res versions if you'd like. I also did it to a couple other sixers just to see what it would look like.
Here are the higher res versions. Note how I did the front?

Yes please E24 pilot, if you could do a photoshop for me that would be great, can you use sepang bronze as the color and the black top to look similar the the red/black E30. if you can but the black at the same level of the lower door window trim.thanks a bunch:)

I am an amateur painter. I will only use Dupont. I have used other paint in the past, and have had some seriously disastrous results.
Base coat/clear is super forgiving. That is usually the only way I paint.
I painted my 633, and 635 I have currently. The 635 I pulled all the trim. It is the most difficult car I have ever had to work with...trim wise. I finally gave up on the rear window trim. The windshield I had to put a new seal in to get the trim back in, and it isnt perfect. The side window trim is a project. Lots of shims, and small pieces to deal with. Take tons of pictures if you are going to remove it.
I masked the 633 to the edges of everything. It started peeling at the mask line after about 4 years, so with the 635 I did all the trim removal. Not sure if it was worth it, but I have five years and no peeling.
Good luck!

Well... Sepang is a really tough color to match being a metallic brown. This might give you a basic idea. (not my best work, but enough to get the concept.)

I think the bronze/black is too drastic a combo. I like the darker color up top, so maybe the sepang bronze on top and something like platinum bronze for the bottom.
