whats up fellas. how is it going. long time no hear. i had a question for my 8 ers who live in nyc...whether long island...or the 5 bouroughs. if you guys have tints....what is the percentage each of you have and tell me if you get messed with the cops for having tints to dark? I want tints...but i dont want any trouble from nypd or tickets from traffic cops. what is the offical legal percentage for tints in nyc and whats the darkest i can go without breaking that illegal tint law?

i saw the link. you need to let 70 percent of light in...so whats the percentage to have for that?? about 50-60 percent tints? i know people go way darker than 50-60 percent. i wanna know whats the darkest i can go but not be that dark. i was told 35-40 percent is perfect and the cops dont really care. i know its the 20-5 percent tints ( limo tints ) that get the cops attention!!

Tints are rated at their light input.
So 70 percent light in would be 70% tint

I have had all range of tints on various cars in NYC, and I've been harrased by NYPD for all, so now i am tintless. Seems to work out better, no tint tickets, but sometimes i feel like im in a fishbowl

LOl....i dont know if i want to go tintless! summer is coming and i need to be protected from the sun. we will see. i might just do 40-50 percent tint. if a cop cant still look inside the window...than he is blind and shouldnt be on the job!!

I have 35% on my DD Civic here in VA and you can see me very well inside of the car. Sometimes I wonder if it was even worth the money. I will be getting 20% on my 850 for damn sure! I give no f-q about a ticket. I rarely drive the car anyway. Good luck with whatever you choose.

thanks bud. appreciate it. i might do this. go with 25 percent on the rear back windows and 30-35 percent with the front driver and passenger windows. keep my wind shield clear or might do 35 percent ...and the black 35 percent.. that way..cops can see in the back...and in the front...sides are whatever!!

You need to let 70% light in. This means 30% tint. Many factory glass has ~ 5% already. 30% tint is almost clear. Unless you find a film that blocks UV and heat...and does not simply make that claim, tinting in NY is not worth it. A cop in Binghamton pulled me over AT NIGHT and check the tint in my 2002 truck with 30% factory tint, and told me it was too dark. I have been driving this since it was new, with legal tint from the dealer, never been harassed until a month ago...money must be tight.

3M has a new crystalline automotive film that is not a tint , but will block 60%
of the heat coming in through the windows . Koizumi uses it I think . It may
come in a tinted version as well . Not sure , check 3M website .

what's a PBA card guys?

PBA card is a card giving to you by a cop friend. its bascially a pass from tickets. it lets the other cops know that you are on the right side..if you know what i mean. it works...but you cant do anything stupid and think the card will save you. its really a anti harrassment card from cops!!!

Just so you know, if anybody else noticed, we had two people post about tint %s..

Certain tint companies measure by the amount of light let in, and some by the amount of light blocked.

so if NYC laws are 70% light let in, then it could be either 70% or 30%.
