Hello All,

As I debate using my 1988 M6 as a DD...
I am looking into an alternate Daily Driver. In all cases I want an original clean rust free low mile example with good up keep and records. I'm looking at either the 1993/1994 Saab 900 or a E30 preferably 1990 or 1991. Both in either convertible or hardtop. The E30 can be a 318, 325 or a 325IX, in either 2 or 4 door, I am not too picky. Its the low miles and original condition that I am after. So that said what are your thoughts. Which one.

I do have a family to include wife and two children of ages 3 and 6 but thats not really a major factor as we do have an additional family hauler. It would help to have as second DD that can support them if need be... While I am a manual guy my wife cannot drive them so I am open to an automatic since my toys are all manual trans.

So far I have found a
1991 325IX 2 door automatic with low 50K to 60K original miles. Timing and water pump just done - the price is still TBD

I also found 1994 Saab 900 SE Turbo convertible automatic. Again, the last of the true Saab's before GM took over and destroyed the brand. Its got 55000 original miles, clean, no accidents and original rust free paint. Two owner car and its black on tan. Looks nice but will need to go see it. Asking price is $8900 USD.

What are your thoughts.

Thanks

I HATE Saabs.

A chance to get an E30?? Those things are rock solid DD's.

I would never pick anything over an E30 for your needs, especially a Saab Turbo Vert. So many things can go wrong on that car, that can NEVER go wrong with an M20 hardtop BMW.

Best of luck in your choice.

You should be able to get a very nice E30 for $8900 and have some change left over. I would guess the an auto would pair best with the 325i versus the 4 cyl cars but no direct exp. If you are in Miami as your sig says then a 325iX (AWD) might be overkill.

As other said. An E30 will buy you a lot more car. You can. It a really clean low miles 5-speed for $9k - probably with a really sweet new paint job.

having worked on both, hands down the 325, unless you have a thing for pain ;)

i sank incredible amounts of money into fixing my dd 9-5 wagon. new turbo, new fuel pump, new ignition lock etc. did the work myself but even then the parts are expensive. then the engine blew and took the new turbo with it.
loved the power from the 'small' engine but can testify that they are bad to work on and just not reliable at all.
