Its an automatic trans and im wondering if i can use dexron 3 in it. Also im having trouble finding the right trans gasket and filter . And finally what diff fluid should i use ... Please help lol

Not sure if you'll have the same transmission as a 325 but i would think maybe. Try real oem and see what transmissions pop up. Is it a 5 speed auto? You will have gears 2,3, and 4 as an option beside your shifter if it is. If that is the case you most likely have a Jatco A5S300J.

Not 100% sure, but I am fairly certain it is the same transmissions used in some nissans back then.

IDEMITSU RACING ATF D-3 is the new brand for the fluid for the A5S300J if that is in fact the transmission you have. It originally called for Apolloil ATD D3 ATF.

The seals can be found if you hunt google for awhile.

japanese domestic market.. on a bmw. so, german car, built in japan, exported to US? coming from the subaru family i hear jdm all the time but now i'm confused.

All import cars to Japan must have a certain amount of Japanese parts. It was most likely built in Germany (euro spec) then shipped to Japan minus some parts, ie transmission and some gauges etc.

Are you sure about that? Without transmissions, tt would be hard to drive the cars on and off the Deutsche Bahn auto carriers. (The E36s headed for Japan passed by just a short walk from here.)

I suppose it is possible that they place the Japanese transmissions in the cars in Germany or even switch them out in Japan once there. And not all had Jatco ones, some used the european.

JDM auctions are a very common way to import euro spec BMWs to some countries (Canada, Australia, Malaysia). Due to "Shaken" in Japan it becomes very expensive to run older import cars in Japan. Most of these BMWs were originally bought as status symbols by wealthier Japanese. A lot of Alpina BMWs ended up there, along with heavy amounts of AC Schnitzer and Racing Dynamics mod cars.

Not sure about the laws in most other countries regarding importing but in Canada we can import them from Japan as long as they are 15 years old from date of manufacture on the day they arrive here.

I actually just looked at importing (from Japan) an e36 Alpina b3 with >40,000 km's and a euro spec M3 with >70k.
