I'm looking at an m3 for sale it has some funky looking zip-ties by the radiator, was wondering if anyone could figure out what is going on here.

Probably had crappy radiator clips and rather than getting it fixed, they ziptied it.

I am currently running a zip tie on one side as my radiator clip broke.

If you own an e36 you are well versed in zip-tie repair.

Yeah I have one side zip tied. No big deal really, those clips break, they do the same job. At least you know the radiator was replaced at some point.

The wiring harness that runs in front of the radiator is zip tied down on my car. More reliable than the crappy clips BMW used. I wouldn't like zip ties in place of the clips that hold the radiator in. Who knows how that might twist the radiator.

Yep..structurally non-important parts.

So true, zip ties are great for patching up busted up fender liners and underpanels. I also used them to attach my fog light brackets.

For the radiator I'd buy the correct clips since it's pretty heavy and has fans running very close to it.

I would argue that one of the larger sized zip ties is stronger than the crappy oem radiator clip.

I use zipties as my exhaust camshadt bearings

You guys are lazy, haha
A package of zip ties is more expensive then the two clips lol!

I think if I removed the zip ties my car would literally fall apart

Zip ties are better than the BMW black connector plugs but not the clip. I use them to replace the lousy connector that holds the shroud to the radiator.
Just because BMW invented it doesn't mean it is right or the best way. Water pump design comes to mind...

Now that I think about it, that's where mine are. My Rad clips are fine. I have one of those huge canisters of zip ties I bought awhile back, comes in quite handy...

I've been keeping my fleet of 5 cars running fine for years using only zip ties, gorilla duct tape, and Crisco.

What a shocker, people are using zip ties to hold their radiators.

Ireland Engineering Radiator... fan shroud... monster ZIP ties.

Sadly... it works... and works great!

nothing wrong with zip ties...depending on application of course.

In many cases they are actually stronger than the oem piece... although it may not be as pretty.

*only zip ties on my car are securing some wiring*

We're talking about the radiator/fan shroud right? That's what I meant. I don't know how you zip tie down the actual radiator itself.
